Company Profile
In 1954, by the joint initiatives of the Swiss Migros Cooperatives Union and Istanbul Municipality, Migros was founded with the mission of obtaining food supplies and consumables from producers under the supervision of the municipal authorities and to serve these products to Istanbul inhabitants in hygienic conditions and at economic prices.

Migros strengthened its leading position in the Turkish retailing sector pursuing a persistent policy of rapid growth at home and abroad. Migros delivers the most modern shopping facilities to as many as 150 million customers with its six different formats; namely Migros, Sok, Ramstore, Migros and Ramstore Shopping Complex, Online Shopping and mobile sales units.

Problems Faced
Migros felt the need for the data entry process for MClub Card application forms to be done in a fast and secure way. Also required was to implement this application process in a distributed environment while providing centralized monitoring and reporting facilities of the process and the users.

Solution Strategy
To implement a reliable and scalable form management solution, Migros chose Abbyy Software's Abbyy Enterprise Forms product, which offered a network-based solution for distributed data processing over a set of specialized workstations.

Since the project was changing the company's data-entry processes vastly, in order to minimize the adaptation and the integration process, Migros used a bottom-up approach for this project. Migros chose an A5 size MClub Card Data Renewal Form for the first implementation of the project. With the technical assistance of KETS, installation, implementation and production of this initial stage of the project took only three days. More than 20 rules were applied on the fields of the form for data validation. Data entry users were trained for scanning and verifying the data captured from the application in a short time. Within these three days, 10,000 forms were processed and the data extracted was stored in an Oracle database.

Second need for an implementation came up when the company's HR department needed a solution for capturing data from an old style OMR form that they were currently using. Given the fact that OMR forms are hard to implement in ICR applications, Abbyy Enterprise Forms was a possible solution with its extensive customization capabilities. Radio box groups were easily designed using Abbyy's powerful and flexible form design tool and the form was implemented electronically. The experience and know-how of KETS that was transferred to Migros IT employees during the first implementation was enough to guide the project task force through the steps of designing, implementing, and processing stages of the project. Within a couple days of the project completion, more than 15,000 forms had been processed and the data captured from these forms have been stored in databases of the HR department.

Third need for the product arose when the company decided to capture the data from Migros MClub Card Application Forms. Redesigning the form for ICR applications, Migros used an A5 duplex paper. With their gained know-how and experience, the IT department of the company was already capable of designing the forms themselves. The goal of the project is to reach the 1,000,000 data entry mark within a year from the initiation of the project.

Benefits Gained
Within a short period of the project's completion, Migros realized productivity increases, time and manpower savings and data entry errors reductions as a result of the automated form processing. These positive changes were results of expandable, customizable and scalable features of Abbyy Enterprise Forms. On the other hand, the performance and ROI of the project were easily tracked using the monitoring and performance reporting tools that are bundled with Abbyy Enterprise Forms.
